Postal official murder: Two police officials arrested


Madurai, Apr 16 (PTI): Two police officials have been arrested in connection with the murder of a postal official, over which former DMK minister K K S S Ramachandran was held on April 10. The officers, one a retired Deputy Superintendent of police and another an inspector, have been charged under various IPC Sections, including 201 (causing disappearance of evidence/clues and 218 (incorrect record or writing with the intent to save a person), when they were working in Irukankudi in Virudhunagar district, police said. The arrests followed the confession of former DSP Kumaravel before the First Judicial Magistrate on the role played by them in covering up the case with the help of Ramachandran and closing it as an accident case. Police said Lakshmanan, a postal official, was murdered by Aruppukottai Union DMK secretary Sahul Hameed and Mariammal (deceased's wife) in Virudhunagar district for questioning Hameed's illicit relationship with her. Hameed and Mariamma have already been arrested. The DSP has been remanded to 15 days judicial custody, while the inspector, who was working in Tiruvarur has been arrested, brought here and remanded to judicial custody. PTI SSN APR
