The Maoists, early on Tuesday morning, issued a statement that the health condition of Sukma collector Alex Paul Menon in their captivity has turned very critical and asked for medicines. The abductors who named three mediators said in their statement to send the medicines only through the
mediators.
The three negotiators named by the rebels are Supreme Court lawyer and key member of Anna team Prashant Bhushan, former Bastar collector and ex-chairman of National SC/ST Commission B D Sharma and president of All India Adivasi Mahasabha Manish Kunjam.
Asha Menon, wife of abducted collector has been repeatedly appealing the Maoists to release her husband. "He is suffering from asthma and not carrying any medicines. I appeal for his immediate release on humanitarian ground", she said.
"We invite only these three to visit Tadmetla", said the statement and asked them to accept the invitation. Kunjam however has refused to act as mediator. Also Team Anna member Prashant Bhushan has refused to mediate in the matter. Bhushan condemned the kidnapping of the collector by Maoist and said he was ready to appeal to the Maoists, but not to mediate. "Free (the) collector first , then we will talk," he said.
The Maoist statement issued by secretary, South Bastar Divisional Committee (CPI-Maoists), Vijay Markam said that the ADG (anti-Maoist operation) Ramniwas had questioned the veracity of the audio message they had released on Sunday. "This is nothing more than a delay tactics", said the statement mailed to HT.
